Applying TQM Principles To Software Development Workshop

The purpose of this 4-day workshop is to provide an understanding of total quality principles from the software development viewpoint, and a working knowledge of the methods and tools associated with software process improvement. In this workshop, TQM principles are applied to software development by adapting Deming's principles to the software environment. Participants learn to identify attributes of a quality organization and problems which limit both quality and productivity. Participants gain workshop experience in the software TQM methods and tools. The course also presents a seven step plan for inserting quality management principles into a software development organization.

The Applying Quality Management Principles to Software Development Workshop will specifically:

	Identify the causes of the software crisis and discuss methods for combating their effects
	Introduce TQM principles from the software industry perspective
	Compare software development team strategies with emphasis on successful features
	Provide workshop experience in statistical process control (SPC) in the management and improvement of the software process
	Provide workshop experience in estimating the effects of software process and environment on development schedule and resources
	Provide a means of calibrating developer capability and project environment, and the use of calibration in process improvement
	Provide a quality technology transition model for continuing evaluation of quality status and improvement
